This class consists of essay writing with emphasis on process, purpose, audience awareness, critical analysis, focus, organization, development, clarity, coherence, and engagement with outside texts. The objective of this course is to enable students to make their writing process more efficient and effective and to develop skills in essay focus, development, and organization of a position as well as to contribute to students' general knowledge and abilities to read, think, and write critically through reading and discussion as well as the gathering of supporting material.
We will be reading the following novels first semester: We will also read several poems, short stories, and essays:
Frankenstein "Rime of the Ancient Mariner"
How to Read Like a Professor "We Wear the Mask"
The Plays of Sophocles from Self Reliance
Death of a Salesman "The Veldt"
The Bad Seed
Invisible Man
